All students are eligible to sign up to receive a tree seedling of their choosing to celebrate Earth Month. .
"ONE MORE TIME: Upcycled Art by 3 Artists" Exhibit
March 10 - April 29
University Center -
The "ONE MORE TIME: Upcycled Art by 3 Artists" exhibit runs from March 10-April 29 in Roberta's Art Gallery. This eco-friendly exhibit highlights the creativity of three Southeastern Wisconsin artists (Gabrielle Javier-Cerulli, Amy Weh, and Gary Warren Niebuhr) who transform upcycled materials into stunning works of art. Join us for the workshop and reception on April 15 at 6 pm to hear more from the artists and enjoy light refreshments.
Earth Month Kickoff: Trash Pickup
Tuesday, April 1: 3:30 pm-5:30 pm
Join the Sustainability Office interns as we lead a trash pickup of various areas of the 91¶¶Òõ main campus and help make a tangible difference for the local environment. Meet us at Upham Greenhouse to get started. Trash bags and gloves will be provided for participants.
Guide to Going Green

Guide to Going Green is an interactive event hosted by the Sustainability Office and S.A.G.E., designed to help you incorporate eco-friendly habits into your daily life. Join us to learn practical ways to live more sustainably, from reducing waste to conserving energy. We'll provide valuable education, resources, and even equipment to support your green journey. Whether you're looking to make small changes or big impacts, this event will give you the tools to create a more sustainable future!
Growing Gardens in Containers
Tuesday, April 8: 5:30 - 6:30 pm

Growing vegetables in containers is a great way to grow fresh food without needing a lot of space. Almost any vegetable can be grown in a container. Learn about how to select and care for a variety of vegetables, from leafy greens to root crops, and keep them thriving all season long. Presented by Julie Hill, Horticulture Outreach Specialist, UW-Madison Division of Extension, Walworth, Rock and Jefferson Counties.
Careers in Sustainability Panel

Whether you're exploring options or ready to take the next step, this event will provide the guidance and connections you need!
Clothing Swap
Monday, April 14: 11:00am - 3:00 pm

Clothing Swap is back! One of our most popular events, this is your chance to refresh your wardrobe in a sustainable way. Bring in your gently used clothes and swap them for something new-to-you! With a variety of styles and sizes to choose from, you can find great pieces while reducing textile waste. Participants are encouraged to donate items to keep the swap going for everyone. Any remaining donations will be given to —so you’re not just refreshing your closet, you’re giving back too!
Kewl Upcycled Assemblages Art Workshop

Earth Day Trivia

This fun and interactive event is the perfect way to celebrate Earth Day while learning more about sustainability. Come show off what you know and discover new ways to help the planet!
Stream Monitoring Session
Fri, April 18: 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
The 91¶¶Òõ Sustainability Office participates in stream monitoring with the through the . With the help of faculty, staff, and students, we go out to local streams and take measurements of different variables that help determine the health of these tributaries of the Rock River. These measurements include temperature, stream flow, transparency, dissolved oxygen, stream depth, and biotic index. These measurements are reported to the WAV program, as well as the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. We typically conduct stream monitoring three times per month between April and October at our site locations along Bluff Creek, Whitewater Creek, and Spring Brook Creek.
We REQUIRE attendees to register in advance as a Sustainability Office Volunteer so we can communicate any cancellations, coordinate transportation to the locations, and get your wader size.
Basil Planting Activity

Join us for our Basil Planting Workshop, hosted in partnership with Warhawk Dining. This event offers students the opportunity to learn about nutrition and the benefits of cooking with fresh herbs. Participants will receive guidance on how to grow and care for basil, while also exploring ways to incorporate it into healthy and flavorful recipes. Each attendee will plant their own basil to take home, providing a fresh addition to future meals. Don’t miss this chance to expand your cooking skills and bring home a versatile herb for your kitchen!

Native Plants with Latinos Unidos

Join the Sustainability Office and Latinos Unidos for Native Plants with Latinos Unidos! Learn about native plants from Latin America, their cultural significance, and their role in sustainability. Get creative as we decorate pots and pot some of these beautiful plants for you to take home. Plus, enjoy a guided tour of the campus greenhouse! Don’t miss this hands-on event celebrating culture, conservation, and community.
Make A Difference Day

Campus Garden
We proudly participate in Student Activities and Involvement’s Make A Difference Day and provide volunteer opportunities for students to get involved. Join us for our volunteer events in the Campus Garden this growing season as we work on bed preparation and seed planting. You can sign up for this event through Student Activities and Involvement. For any future Campus Garden or Greenhouse volunteer sessions, . Help us make an impact locally by contributing to our produce donations for food pantries in the Whitewater area.
Arbor Day Tree Planting

Time to celebrate another year as a Tree Campus Higher Education institution with a ceremonial tree planting on Arbor Day. We will be planting another tree as part of our 50 Trees for 50 Years of Earth Day fundraising effort launched in April 2020. The event will start with a short introduction to our Tree Campus certification and the Salisbury Idea native tree inventory found throughout the Salisbury and Chopp Arboretums before we finish planting this year's ceremonial tree, dedicated to , a former instructor in the Biology Department who donated the first tree to our program to honor a friend who had passed away. George's tree will be planted near his friend's tree in Chopp Arboretum. Brief tours of the Halverson Log Cabin will also be available before and after the ceremony.
Cramming with Cats
Wednesday, April 30: 10:00am-2:00 pm
Andersen Library
We are excited to partner with Barista Cat Café to host our Cramming with Cats event. Spend time in the library relaxing with friendly, adoptable cats; a great opportunity to unwind and recharge. As an additional activity, participants can paint a decorative pot and plant catnip to take home for their own pets. Registration is required for this event. Please sign up through Connect2 to secure your spot. We look forward to providing a calming experience while supporting a local business dedicated to animal welfare.
